Yosemite

Vernal Falls1

Hi all! You may or may not have noticed that I haven’t posted in a little while, well I went on a vacation to one of the most beautiful places this time of year — Yosemite National Park :)  The waterfalls were in full-swing and we didn’t miss a single one!  I think we hiked about 20 miles in two days, and even through some snow!!  We got rain, sun, and really chilly and the scenery never got old…

Indian Inspiration

I’ve been intrigued by anything indian for a few years now. The gorgeous textiles, patterns, bold colors, intricate wood carvings, and the signature indian arches. The combination of all of these elements bring such a special energy to any space; they feel wise, well-traveled, and deeply rooted.

If you’re wondering how you can give your room an indian feel try a few of these tips:

  • swap out plain bedding with a bold color and intricate pattern
  • hang an indian style lantern instead of a bedside lamp
  • cover your floor with an oversized patterned rug
  • paint wood furniture bold colors like pink or sea green
  • incorporate carved wooden screens into your design

I really love that they use hot pink as a “neutral” in indian design. When I used to sell flowers, I would tell people that pink was for passion.. so why not be bold and passionate in design? ;)

Coastal California Inspiration

{Look to nature for design inspiration, because nobody does it better}

Here’s my quick guide to accomplishing ‘beachy’ design without feeling cliché  ;)

You don’t need a comforter with a seashell pattern, you don’t need starfish hanging on your wall, and you really don’t need vases full of sand and shells. Instead, look to textures like a soft braided sisal rug (like this one), the use of driftwood in unexpected places (like here), and a palette of soothing colors. Like these:

Accessorize with Red Coral, Vases that resemble beach glass, Tropical Plants, and fun artwork like these vintage prints:

Have fun creating your new beach inspired space!

SD to PV by Boat

{My attempt to illustrate our voyage from San Diego to Puerto Vallarta, w/ a stop in Cabos}

This trip was definitely one for the books. I’m so glad I decided to forgo a job offer and take a chance with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We were on the 56′ catamaran for about a week, and it was so fun and different from anything I’ve ever done.

We went more than two days without seeing any land on the horizon and I really felt like we were out in the middle of the ocean. The water was the clearest-bluest-blue you could imagine at 2,500′ deep. Just on our very first day we saw seals, huge pods of dolphins (including albino dolphins!) and three killer whales. In fact, every day we were at sea dolphins came to play at the bow of the boat.  Later in our journey we even saw sharks! (insert ‘Jaws’ music here) The first four days were total bliss, the weather was gorgeous (HOT!), the water just got warmer as we went south, and we stopped to jump in and fish whenever we got the chance. The stars at night were breathtaking, especially before moonrise. The sky looked like an intricate tapestry of glowing lights suspended above us.

After we got to Cabos, the weather started to get a little sketchy. We had checked the forecast online and knew that we’d be going through a couple of tropical storms. The ocean got really rough and most of us started to feel a little sea-sick. The good news is that we made it through (I didn’t even puke! haha) two full nights of rocking and waves banging and slamming the boat; it felt like we had Godzilla chained up below us and he was trying to escape… no joke. After that we all felt super grateful for our calm and sunny first few days ;)

{So much fun!!}

{Birthday breakfast-in-bed :) crepes w/ nutella and jam hehe}

{Birthday visitors… Dolphins!}

{I know I look like a total dork in this picture (so you’re finally seeing my true colors ;)) but it was necessary to show how massive this dorado was! It was a team effort to catch… Me, Forrest and Pancho! Wohoo!!}

{Such a cool shot! Perfect timing, huh?}

{Happy to be on land}

{Deliciousness at Bichos in Sayulita}

{Tubing session, we had 6 people on that thing at once and it still kicked our ass}

What was the highlight of my trip you ask? I rode a sea-turtle! No, really, I literally rode a wild sea-turtle in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Thanks for letting me share my trip with you! I’ll be back to regular posting frequency now :)

Home Sweet Home

{Relaxing in the morning with coffee and biscotti}

Here’s a quick recap of my weekend. I had a great time at home, it was very relaxing and recharging. We went to the farmers market, concert in the park, watched a fair amount of the Olympics, did a couple of projects around the house, shopped, just a little, and I even got to go riding on Sunday.

{Yummy fresh berries from farmers market}

{Sweet as candy, tiny donut peaches}

{Wishing I could buy every bouquet}

I hope you all had a great weekend as well! I’ll be preparing this week to leave for a sailing trip to Mexico… details to come later!

Santa Cruz in Snapshots

Please excuse my lack of posts this past week, I was enjoying a little vacation in Santa Cruz with some family :) The condo where we stayed is in Capitola (just south of Santa Cruz proper), but we had fun exploring both the village of Capitola as well as Santa Cruz. I had a wonderful time, but I’m excited to be back to share some of my snapshots from the trip. A few favorites from our visit included gorgeous roadside farmers market produce, long morning walks on the beach, sweet treats (aka breakfast) from Gayles Bakery, yummy ice cream (lavender&honey + thin mint), the most delicious bloody mary I’ve encountered, morning coffee on the balcony, & fried artichokes on our drive home.

That last picture above is our view from the balcony of the condo, we even spotted dolphins out there one evening! We were lucky enough to have a couple really beautiful sunny days (rare for Santa Cruz in June!). I’ll be back to normal blogging frequency now :) Hope you all had a great week!

3 Things

This week has been full of change, projects coming to a close, and the opportunity for new beginnings. My internship with Bixby & Ball has come to an end, and now it’s time for  me to gear up and get ready for a new adventure. Being on the job hunt is always such a humbling experience, but I’m confident I’ll find just what I need. ;) In the mean time, here are a few things making me happy this week.

{A crystal ashtray given new life as a sparkly soap dish in my bathroom}

{A few old travel books I picked up at a thrift store, all of places I’d like to go}

{A fun tiny accessory: small false nose ring I picked up here for $3}

3 Things

Hello Monday! This weekend came to an end a little too fast as I’ve been spending time with my family at home. I came up to help my parents finish our design for the living room (which included incorporating and re-merchandising their bookcase… pictures to come ;) and to pick out a new paint color for their master bedroom. In an effort to keep my spirits up while I’m leaving to drive back today, I thought I’d share a ‘3 things’ post. :) These are 3 things that I’m currently loving, being inspired by, or little somethings that are making me happy.

{An adorable tiny leather wallet/card case I found here on Etsy}
