Vernal Falls1

Hi all! You may or may not have noticed that I haven’t posted in a little while, well I went on a vacation to one of the most beautiful places this time of year — Yosemite National Park :)  The waterfalls were in full-swing and we didn’t miss a single one!  I think we hiked about 20 miles in two days, and even through some snow!!  We got rain, sun, and really chilly and the scenery never got old…

Coastal California Inspiration

{Look to nature for design inspiration, because nobody does it better}

Here’s my quick guide to accomplishing ‘beachy’ design without feeling cliché  ;)

You don’t need a comforter with a seashell pattern, you don’t need starfish hanging on your wall, and you really don’t need vases full of sand and shells. Instead, look to textures like a soft braided sisal rug (like this one), the use of driftwood in unexpected places (like here), and a palette of soothing colors. Like these:

Accessorize with Red Coral, Vases that resemble beach glass, Tropical Plants, and fun artwork like these vintage prints:

Have fun creating your new beach inspired space!

Summer: Living Outdoors

OK, so I’m probably way behind with this, but I just discovered a show on HGTV (online) called Outdoor Rooms, and I absolutely love it. The host, Jamie Durie (a handsome australian) is extremely talented and creates these gorgeous outdoor living spaces in clients’ yards, drawing from specific spots that he travels to for inspiration. Especially this time of the year, I can’t help but want to do everything outside… sleep, eat, lounge… it’s just too beautiful to stay in! So, feeling inspired, I compiled a little group of some of my favorite photos of outdoor living spaces.

I hope these inspire you to create a special little outdoor living spot for yourself!

Santa Cruz in Snapshots

Please excuse my lack of posts this past week, I was enjoying a little vacation in Santa Cruz with some family :) The condo where we stayed is in Capitola (just south of Santa Cruz proper), but we had fun exploring both the village of Capitola as well as Santa Cruz. I had a wonderful time, but I’m excited to be back to share some of my snapshots from the trip. A few favorites from our visit included gorgeous roadside farmers market produce, long morning walks on the beach, sweet treats (aka breakfast) from Gayles Bakery, yummy ice cream (lavender&honey + thin mint), the most delicious bloody mary I’ve encountered, morning coffee on the balcony, & fried artichokes on our drive home.

That last picture above is our view from the balcony of the condo, we even spotted dolphins out there one evening! We were lucky enough to have a couple really beautiful sunny days (rare for Santa Cruz in June!). I’ll be back to normal blogging frequency now :) Hope you all had a great week!

Sleeping in the Sun

With Summer officially here, I thought this would be the perfect time to share a few of my collected images of some epic, outdoor nap spots. There’s just nothing better than taking a long nap outside in the fresh air. :)

I hope you had a great weekend!

Blissful Moments

Finding myself off work unusually early today, with the weather being a perfect 72°, I decided to forgo my earlier plans of laundry and errands to pretend it was the weekend and head off to the beach.  I sat on the sand and reveled in the beauty of some quiet time in the sun with only my book and the sound of the waves.
